Oklahoma Burgers, Temperance Street, Toronto
Onion fried burgers and more in the heart of Downtown Toronto on Temperance Street
Our newest store is open at 4 Temperance Street, just off Yonge in the middle of Toronto's Financial District, and it's the fifth home for our fried onion burgers.
Temperance Street comes with a story we couldn't resist. Nearly two centuries ago the tanner Jesse Ketchum opened the street through his own land, named it for the temperance cause, and made sure no liquor would be sold on it. We're keeping the tradition: our drinks list is cold cans and water, and the only thing getting smashed here is the beef.
The block itself is downtown Toronto at its most concentrated: bank towers along Bay Street, trading floors and law offices overhead, Cloud Gardens a few steps west, and Yonge Street carrying shoppers between the Eaton Centre and King. Lunch hour is serious business around here, and an Oklahoma onion burger was built for it: cooked fresh in a couple of minutes, inexpensive, and genuinely worth leaving the desk for.
The menu is our downtown Toronto lineup: two burgers, done perfectly. The Oklahoma stacks 4oz beef patties with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles and burger sauce; the BM Burger swaps in our bone marrow "BM" sauce for something richer. Add fries, dirty fries or onion rings and a cold can. As at every location, the beef is halal brisket ground in house daily, smashed thin on the griddle under a heap of thinly sliced onions until the edges crisp.
Getting here is easy: Queen and King stations on Line 1 are each a couple of minutes' walk away, and the 501 Queen and 504 King streetcars stop nearby. Eat in, order pickup ahead on Toast and skip the lunch line, or have it delivered. Every ordering link is below.
Heading to a show at the Elgin and Winter Garden, finishing a shift on Bay Street, or just hungry somewhere between Queen and King? Temperance Street is your Oklahoma Burgers. Come watch your onions hit the griddle.
